Solution Summary: Ladder Rung Step
Climbing extension ladders that are unstable can increase the chance of a fall leading to an injury or even death. Fractures are the most common injuries associated with falling from a ladder, followed by strains, sprains, and abrasions. A ladder rung step can reduce worker missteps when ascending and descending a ladder.
How Risks are Reduced:
A ladder rung step can reduce the likelihood of falls because it provides a working platform with a larger surface area for a worker to step and stand on.
There have not been independent published studies measuring the effect of using ladder rung steps on reducing ladder falls. Regardless, safety and health experts anecdotally believe ladder rung steps can provide more stability when there is a higher likelihood of a worker making ladder rung contact.
The ladder rung step is not applicable to step ladders.
