This work activity involves removing old roofing materials, applying membrane sheeting, or tar or asphalt and gravel to flat roofs, cutting and applying, underlayment, battens, shingles, tiles, and sheet metal to sloped roofs, installing flashing, gutters and downspouts. Specific tasks include, for example, unloading and transporting material onto roofs, using roofing cement glues and caulk, and working on ladders and scaffolds. This database includes an analysis of the hazards associated with these tasks, as well as practical measures for making such work safer.
