  Work Activity: Sheet Metal & HVAC  
  Task: Apply caulk, cement and mastic sealants  
 Hazard: Skin contact with chemicals

  Problem:

Dermatitis and other skin disorders.

Workers who are exposed to sealants, mastics, solvents and caulks may get occupational skin disease which can include irritation, irritant contact dermatitis, and allergic contact dermatitis.

 
  Risk Description:

Solvents, mastics, caulks and sealants may contain primary irritant or sensitizing materials.  The effects may become rapidly noticeable or may only develop over repeated exposures.

 
  Level of Risk:

Exposures are of such a magnitude and character that a significant number of workers risk developing serious long or short term health effects.
