Mechanical Roller-cover Cleaner

The mechanical roller-cover cleaner is a drill powered cleaner used to quickly remove paint from roller-covers for re-use or job cleanup.

Description:

The mechanical roller-cover cleaner is an engineering control that can reduce the risk of injury from stressful hand and wrist activity. The mechanical roller-cover cleaner is a drill powered cleaner used to quickly remove paint from roller-covers for re-use or job cleanup.

The mechanical roller-cover cleaner is powered by a drill and spins the roller-cover at high speeds in water removing left over paint. The roller-cover is placed between a pair of ribbed cylinders while still on the roller handle. A socket that attaches to a drill drives the mechanical roller-cover cleaner. The mechanical roller-cover cleaner has hooks to attach to the side of a container. The mechanical roller-cover cleaner is made of rust proof metal and comes in two sizes, 12 in and 18 in.

Risks Addressed:

Stressful hand and wrist activity can cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as muscle strains; tendonitis, which is inflammation of elbow and wrist tendons; or carpal tunnel syndrome, which is compression of a wrist nerve, resulting in finger numbness and loss of hand strength.  The mechanical roller-cover cleaner can reduce stressful hand and wrist activity by using a power drill to clean roller-covers.

How Risks are Reduced:

The mechanical roller-cover cleaner allows workers to clean rollers quickly with a neutral back posture with the use of a power drill. This reduces the time a worker spends in stooped postures over a sink or a bucket using their hands to clean paint from used roller-covers.

Safety and health experts believe that stressful hand and wrist activity will be decreased by using the mechanical roller-cover cleaner since it is operated by a power drill.

Effects on Productivity:

Productivity will improve as roller-cover clean up time decreases.

Additional Considerations:

When operating a power tool near water proper safety precautions should be taken to avoid electrocution.
