Door Installation Lever

The door installation lever is a manual lever that lifts doors to a convenient height to insert hinge pins while hanging doors.

Description:

The door installation lever, is an engineering control that may help reduce heavy lifting. When hanging doors, the door must be raised to the level of the hinge mortise to replace the hinge pin. The elevation of the door requires workers to lift and place the door while it is hung. It is a lever that elevates the door to the appropriate height to install hinge pins without having to manually lift the door.

Risks Addressed:

Heavy lifting and carrying can cause low back disorders, such as muscle strain or a disc herniation (“slipped disc”), which is bulging of disc material possibly pressing on the spinal cord or nerves that go into the leg.  The DoorJack® can help reduce heavy lifting and carrying by elevating the door to the appropriate height when replacing hinge pin, eliminating the need for the worker to manually lift the door.

How Risks are Reduced:

While hanging doors, the door must be lifted to align the hinge to replace the pin, which requires heavy lifting by the worker to elevate and place door in position.  The DoorJack® may eliminate the need to lift doors when replacing the hinge pins when hanging doors.

The manufacturer of the DoorJack® states that it will “save your body” and “minimize strain” when hanging doors because the tool lifts and maneuvers the door into place.

Safety and health experts believe that reducing the number of lifts performed throughout the day may reduce the risk of low back injury (da Costa et al. 2010).  The DoorJack® eliminates the need to lift the door when hanging and may reduce the risk of injury.

Effects on Productivity:

The DoorJack® may reduce the amount of time needed to hang doors by allowing the installation to be performed by one worker.
